The Dallas Titans delivered a dominant all-around performance Sunday at McInnish Sports Complex, using an explosive offense and outstanding pitching to cruise past the Barons, 17-1.
Dallas wasted no time taking control, putting five runs on the board in the opening inning. Colton Connolly started the scoring with an RBI double, Steven Baker followed with an RBI single, and Bernie Garces delivered the biggest blow with a three-run home run to left field.
The Titans continued to build their advantage in the second inning behind an RBI single from Korey Gillespie and a run-scoring double from Steely Gill. Already in command, Dallas put the game completely out of reach with an eight-run sixth inning. Stephen Patterson drove in two with a single before Garces and Jake Merrill each drew bases-loaded walks. Aaron Standley was hit by a pitch to force home another run, and Mike Montefusco capped the inning with a three-run single.
Patterson was equally impressive on the mound, earning the victory after tossing five scoreless innings. He allowed just five hits while striking out seven and walking one. Gill finished the game in relief to secure the 17-1 victory.
Dallas collected 10 hits and showed tremendous patience at the plate, drawing nine walks. Garces drove in a team-high four runs, highlighted by his three-run homer, while Patterson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Merrill and Gillespie each drew two walks as the Titans consistently created traffic on the bases.
The Titans also applied pressure with their speed, stealing five bases, including two from Greg Kolesar. Defensively, Dallas completed the dominant performance without committing an error.
The Barons managed just one run against the Titans' pitching staff as Dallas controlled the game from the opening inning through the final out.
With the 17-1 victory in hand, the Titans turn their attention to their next matchup against the DFW Warriors.
